Celia’s Diary: Does Teen Rage Worry You?
Hi everyone, it’s Celia again. I hope that most of the time I will have something lighthearted to write about, but last week I read something that creeped me out so much that I have to tell you about it.
On July 16 a seventeen-year-old boy in Florida killed both of his parents with a hammer and then had a big party at his house. At first I couldn’t believe it, but it really happened.
News reports say that he was a strange kid, but nobody expected him to do anything like that. Apparently he took the drug Ecstasy and just went crazy. What is going on these days?!
I hope that none of you who might have heard about this think that this is normal in America. It is as weird to me as it is to you. Every kid probably thinks about punching out her parents at one time or another, but no sane person would ever really hurt them.
I have enjoyed meeting teenagers from other countries, and I think that we are a lot alike, wherever we are from. I’d bet that what happened in Florida could happen anywhere in the world. People everywhere can be under stress, can have mental problems, and can abuse drugs.
The recent tragedy in Norway is an even more horrible example of what one sick person can do. I can’t imagine what the people in that country must be going through right now.
So, what does this all mean? Personally, I don’t think we should let these things make us afraid of everything. We still have to live our lives, even though we know that bad things can happen. I would love to hear what you think about events like these. Do they make you worry about the world we are growing up in?
