Wearing A Mask That Will Wear Out…
It’s a weird subject to write on for the Sunday Sip, but somehow it’s struck my mind. And once a volley of thoughts hit me, they just can’t get out of me. I trap them inside with an airtight cork till I put them in black and white!
It’s simply about how we ape things around us, from the society we are living in and the friends we have in our circle. Though I am happy that I am not a victim to this what I call ‘do as others do’ syndrome, but often see people in my workplace or among my friends doing what they should be or to put it in simple words, they look funny doing it just because it does not suit them and sadly they never realize it, and they never accept it.
There are girls who have bloating figures but love wearing skintight tops and straight-fit jeans, suffocating the eyes which look at them, wondering how they are fitting into it or how the clothes are fitting on to them. It’s just because they want to be a part of what is in vogue, whether it suits them or not!
I have seen guys sporting snazzy hairstyles, not realizing they are looking more like their ancestors in the zoo! They have to look happening, not realizing what’s happening to their appearance. They might not have the money to buy their things of their daily needs, but they spend lavishly in coffee shops, restaurants and want to be party animals, not realizing they will soon be left with no money to even buy clothes and turn from the dare devils to bare devils!
And I can’t leave out those guys and girls who love to smoke and drink! They need a special mention because most of them don’t even know how to hold a cigarette or how to carry a peg, but they are having it to be a part of the sham modernism succumbing to nothing but peer pressure.
Thank God, I am not a part of it. I have been a teetotaler all my life, worn what suits me, and have a simple happy life with no worries to be not what I am because I cherish the way I am.
The mask you wear will wear out soon, so it’s better to just once try living yourself and you will love being the person that you are!

An excellent piece!I like the phrase ‘suffocating the eyes which look at them’ and ‘looking more like their ancestors in the zoo’.
I think this is something to do with journalism. Not just clothes, people carry fake expressions. Smile on lips usually does not match with their eyes.
