The Bond of Love

This Sunday I talk about a special relation of brother and sister as parts of India celebrate Raksha Bandhan next week. For our readers abroad, the festival is dedicated to the love and affection shared between a brother and a sister. On this day, sisters pray for long life of their brothers and ask God to bless them with his blessings.

The relation between sister and brother is a special one and its one day brothers and sisters must cherish. I have been myself blessed with an elder sister and for all the sisters and their brothers who take this Sunday Sip with me today it’s a reminder of how small things in this relation make it a strong and a fulfilling one.

I am sure you must be remembering how you would both fight and then the elder one would come and hug and for those who are still in that age group, would know how enticing it is to spend endless moments between a sister and a brother. There are moments of togetherness, of fun and of tears too, but each moment leaving you with a smile in the end.

The relation though so strong is only till the time sister is unmarried till she moves into another home.  Though just the first few years of life are spent together, but these are the growing years, when love and care is blossoming and the two are just a part of the family tree which would branch out in different directions with time.

If you are still with your brother or sister, don’t miss the times you are going through and if you are far away from each other, this time make an effort to be there with each other and recall those days which you both as siblings made so special with a commitment that you will be there for each other all your life. These lines composed by me sum up this special occasion that falls on Tuesday:

She had got a special thread of love and care for her so sweet brother,

It was an invisible string of feelings they so fondly felt for each other,

On this day as she tied another thread on her brother’s wrist so strong,

They vowed to take each other’s care for their love was to last a lifelong.
