We the ‘remarkable’ Indians!

It’s a day to relax and sit back to enjoy yet another Sunday! I am sure you must have woken up late as this is one day when you can do whatever you can’t on any busy week day. For anyone of us, it’s a different day that a normal working day because we can unwind ourselves to gear up for the coming week. It’s another day to take your sip with me – The Sunday Sip…

I didn’t know what to write about till about 1 am when I normally update this site, but something which I come across almost every day struck my mind. It’s about the Typical Indian Mentality, we come across when we meet people, and I am sure you will agree with the three instances I quote here today about us the ‘remarkable’ Indians who often end up with our heart saying, “Just shut up!!!”

I have often heard my neighbours meeting me after ages, and complaining where I had been. What they mean to say is I never visit them, but they often forget they are the same, who have never been to my place as well since ages. But that’s become like a greeting now – before the smile and a wish, there’s a grin and a complaint.

Another characteristic of we Indians is to expect new born babies to be fat and chubby. Often when a baby is born, there are scores of visitors dropping in, and the womenfolk are more concerned about how fat and fair the baby is! If he or she is chubby and fair, they have all smiles, but if the baby is a little skinny and dark, you are flooded with all adverse comments. More than adding to your happiness, they leave you regretful, as if it was more of a baby show than just a congratulatory visit.

And here comes the third and most interesting one. Meeting someone after ages should be a pleasant experience, but if often turns out to be a depressingly ‘remarkable’ exercise. Here remarkable means remarks being passed on how old and haggard you have become. “Hey, all your hair have turned grey”, is the most instant remark, and often by many who are in the same phase of life, but spend an entire day in a month to colour their hair to look young even when they are not.

If we cannot leave a person with a smile, why to leave someone with a frown? The next time you meet your neighbour, call him or her inside or just talk about how he or she has been. If someone has been blessed with a baby, add some happiness. After all every child is a God’s blessing – whether boy or girl, chubby or skinny, dark or fair. And when you bump into your old friend, the least he expects from you is a compliment. Give it liberally because that’s what you would expect in return!

  2. I guess we also need to highlight good traits of ‘remarkable’ Indians :-)

  3. Intentions of Indians are right problem is with the presentation of the intentions to another person
