To Those Who Will Never Return…

Today as a new week starts, The Sip of Life brings to you a special tribute to those who lost their lives in the Saturday crash of Air India Boeing – 737 at Mangalore runaway, which killed around 158. We are not bringing to you our weekly column, ‘Blogger’s Choice’ today, just to remember those who will never return. We bring to you some heartrending stories of those who never knew their lives would be cut short so unexpectedly, so tragically, and so suddenly…
For those who will not see the light in their lives again,
Oh God, be with their families and take away their pain.

A 17 year old media student, Harshini Poonja was with her parents coming to attend a wedding in Mangalore. All three died in the crash and what is left is her last post on Twitter, which talks about her being at the airport and the only thing to look forward, was rain. Who knew it would be rain of tears for her friends and family a few hours later.
Mahesh Shetty, a 28 year old sales executive was to see a girl to start life afresh after being married. Ironically the girl he was coming to see was the one chose by his parents. Now it’s the condolences which the family is going through, when it could have been his marriage ceremony a few months later.
A 45 year old domestic help, Nancy Barreto was on her way to Mangalore to see his ailing husband. She was the only financial support, especially to meet the medical bills of her husband who is suffering from acute liver problem. She suffered severe burn injuries in the crash and is no more.
Thirty nine year old Flavia Lobo, along with her 15 year old daughter Venisha and nine year old son Vishal had gone to see her husband who works in Dubai. Sadly, they had cut short their holiday for admission of children, but never knew they were heading for a life cut short.
A Kerala family is today mourning the death of their son Abdul Hakeem, a 29 year old who ran a medical store in Dubai along with two partners. He was coming home to enroll his elder daughter in the local school and had even talked to his ailing father a day before, but now his family has to live only with his memories.
A UAE based businessman Siddique Sulaiman, who also died in the crash, was coming to attend his father’s burial which was scheduled early Saturday morning. His family in Kasargod, Kerala is today mourning his loss which has left them in a state of shock as it happened soon after his father had just passed away.
A 24-year old Saudi-based businessman Sameer A Sheikh lost 16 relatives in the crash. He was going to attend last rites of his grandmother who had died last Friday, and had flied to Mumbai from Saudi Arabia, and was scheduled to catch a flight to Mangalore, but he lost his wife, two children, maternal uncle and 12 distant relatives who were travelling in the flight.
Harminder Singh Ahluwalia, the co-pilot of the ill-fated flight was just 38 and his friends describe him as a noble soul. He used to be often seen in the Gurudwara donating money for social causes. His mother, an unmarried sister and two brothers are today mourning his death.
Parents of thirty year old Sujata Survase, the Mumbai based air hostess who was aboard the Air India Boeing 737 Express aircraft were looking for a suitable proposal for her as she was the only daughter. She was planning to quit her job as she had been missing her family being away from them for three years now. She never knew fate would take her away from them forever.
The other air hostess Tejal A Kamulkar, 24, had lost 15 kgs to follow her dream profession. When the news was broken on television channels, her father Anil left the house to get the official confirmation. He mother was told she had been injured, but reality was not far behind to be faced with devastation.

  1. Tragic and tearful. May God give abundant strength to the families affected to go through the pain. Our condolences with them.
It only reinforces the belief, Life Is A Blessing, Let’s Live It With Gratitude.

  2. It is a tragic happening…heart rendering …those who have lost their kin will not be able to see them again. I join all those who are mourning their loss. May God rest the departed souls in peace and grant enough strength to their relatives to bear the loss.

  3. Our prayers go out to the bereaved. Each life had a story. Thanks for looking at the humane side of the passengers whose flight terminated somewhere else. But at the same time, amidst this tragedy, I wonder, how futile is our inflated ego, our conflicts, our disagreements, our anger…knowing fully well, that tomorrow we might not be there.
